The trunk would get opened so often from the buttons getting pressed in my pocket by other keys in there.On My 2000, my trunk pops completly, but i have an aftermarket alarm system and the trunk release button on the interior of the car was removed because of the sound system, but when i got the alarm done the installer hooked it directly to the trunk motor and to some other part.
